Spain uses euros as their currency (Check out xe.com for the most up-to-date currency conversion–they have a mobile app too!)
GMT+2, The entire country of Spain falls into the Central European Time Zone.
If you’re planning to spend less than 90 days in Spain/the Schengen area, you can get by using just your U.S. passport–no Visa required.
However, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you leave the Schengen area.
In Spain, the primary language spoken is Spanish. Come on, you know a little.
When you decide where in Spain you want to visit, I recommend reading hotel reviews on Tripadvisor, then booking your room through Booking.com (my favorite booking site).
And don’t forget, there’s always vacation rentals. Check out some Spain vacation rental listings here!
In Barcelona: I loved the Barceló Raval Hotel
For your trip to Spain, you’ll want to pack the following:
– Spain guidebook: I prefer Rough Guides and Fodor’s, but you can also find one from Rick Steves. And Culture Smart! Spain is a great little culture-centered guidebook.
– Anti-theft purse (Watch your pockets and purses in crowded, tourist-filled areas, primarily in Barcelona, the most pick-pockety city I’ve ever visited.)
– Travel insurance. Unfortunately, things can and do go wrong when you travel. World Nomads offers coverage for more than 150 activities as well as emergency medical, lost luggage, trip cancellation and more.
I’m currently in the process of revamping my Spain blog posts so I have nothing to offer at the moment.
In the meantime, I’m happy to answer questions about my time there. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to know more about my time in Spain.
