Iceland uses the Icelandic króna (Check out xe.com for the most up-to-date currency conversion–they have a mobile app too!)
The entire country of Iceland is in the Greenwich Mean Time time zone – the original, the one and only.
If you’re planning to spend less than 90 days in Iceland/the Schengen area, you can get by using just your U.S. passport–no Visa required. (Except for all those hot dogs you’re planning on buying, ba-dum-tshh!)
However, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you leave the Schengen area.
Icelandic is the main language spoken in Iceland. And good luck with that.
The capital city of Reykjavik is worth the visit alone but, though Iceland is isolated, it’s packing tourism possibility out the wazoo.
When you decide where in Iceland you want to visit, I recommend reading hotel reviews on Tripadvisor, then booking your room through Booking.com (my favorite booking site).
And don’t forget, there’s always Airbnb. Check out some of Iceland’s beautiful Airbnbs here!
Outside Reykjavik: Hotel Laxnes
For your trip to Iceland, you’ll want to pack the following:
– Iceland guidebook: I prefer Rough Guides, but you can also find one from Rick Steves and Lonely Planet.
– Travel insurance. I never travel internationally without it and I highly recommend the company I always use: World Nomads.
Below you’ll find all the articles on Iceland that I’ve written so far. One for each day I’ve spent there.
